Following on my earlier post about how all the American drug wars seem to come from the ostensible left of the political spectrum: I have heard several commentators this morning attributing the defeat of California’s ballot initiative to semi-decriminalize marijuana to Eric Holder et al.’s efforts to discourage them. Holder is the U.S. Attorney General (i.e., Obama’s top appointee re domestic legal matters). He went out of his way to tell California voters that federal criminalization would still be in force and implicitly threatened that his federal agents would be arresting people. Undoubtedly this highly political act was cleared (perhaps even initiated) by the White House.
Obama’s “drug czar” openly praised the result of the election.
